Celebrating the African Female

"This business of womanhood is a heavy burden." -Tsitsi Dangarembga

Hello!

I'm back again. A few days ago, the very talented and mind blowing blogger Myvonne Alasia approached me and asked me to write an article about any African female I considered as a motivational character. I felt honored. Thanks Myvonne!

After careful thought, only one person came to mind, hailing all the way from my home country Zimbabwe, the inspirational filmmaker and writer Tsitsi Dangarembga.

It made me reminisce my high school days back at Monte Cassino Girls' High in Macheke, Zimbabwe. We as young girls got the opportunity to study one of Tsitsi's bestsellers, the novel called Nervous Conditions, for Ordinary Level Literature. I was really impressed with her style and how she'd effortlessly communicated the importance of female emancipation in a heavily patriarchal society. I could go on and on , but for more on Tsitsi, click Here .

Myvonne is a talented blogger. I'd suggest you visit her blog, it is honestly refreshing to read and gives a pedestal for the African Female to be celebrated!

That's it for now. Till we meet again! P.S - Thinking of dropping a surprise on you guys! Stay tuned.

Sapphire

I am a Queen
I am rare
I blow my own horn
Maybe you should fix yours too
I can't hear you from the top
Success is my only noise

I am not meant for the weak
My blood irks at simpletons
I will look at you deeply
Body like Sapphire
Pleasing to the eyes
But none for the hands

Look at your own life
Tell me
How I fit in there?
Sorry honey
Feathers can never hold up gold

So hush your unfortunate lips
Stand still, you might see my splendor flourish
Listen, listen, my glory's prized speech
"I am a Queen
I am Strong
I Rule"

It's too big!

Now I know that all of us have that overpowering egotistic nature. It's not bad from time to time to remind yourself, and those around you, who you really are.

Sapphire is a piece which exactly describes this. Bent but never broken, only you can fuel your zest and potential to reach and exceed expectations. You are your own king! I hope you enjoy it.

NB: I am not that cocky, but push my buttons and you'll ignite a flame of arrogance.

Rain

Rain on me, sweet love
Sink right into my soiled heart
Parched and torn
Cleanse my afflictions, precious one
And let me see your beauty clearly

Pour down, tender being
Wash the guilt, the hurt, the anger away
Your presence floods my sanity
It drowns my sense of calm

Like a tide you came in unexpectedly
Like a ricocheting wave you carry me lazily
I am content, I am happy
I feel the love trickling down
Into my bruised soul

Your smile is my desire
Your touch is intoxicates my senses
Drown my troubles
May they flow beyond imagination
I live for your magnificence

Rain, rain on me, my only
Droplets of your unending care trickle down on my heart
Your power is within what you have washed away
Your storms are perfect for my peaceful hells

Drippety Drop...

We all love or loathe the feel of rain on our sun kissed skins..

Rain tells of a broken heart revived, cleansed and soothed by a lovable being, basically he or she has come to the rescue! The sad and lonely soul isn't as gloomy anymore, and like the effect of rain on dry ground they have been refreshed.

Stay cool!

Mother

My child, listen closely
It is said that at the end of the rainbow lies a pot o' gold
You hear, but never be deceived
I have cradled you in my arms
I have loved you
You are my pot of gold

My child, heed my call
My heart pains, it aches
My heart is plagued with a disease so fatal
It will kill my soul
My heart bleeds for you
My heart is crippled by my love for you

I will catch you when you stumble
Have I not taught you your first words?
Have I not held you by the hand,
And led you into the road of bliss
When I look into your eyes
I see my life

My child, it pains me to see you grow
To  know that one day,
you will be weaned from my breast
I want only the best for you
Because I have a duty toward God
To nurture you into goodness
Yes this is my debt to the Father
For he has blessed me with you

May my smile bring you happiness
May my words bring you comfort
May my prayers help you
When you have fallen from grace
May you never  forget me, dearest child
May you never  forsake me when I grow old
I wish this and more
Because I am your Mother

And there's more!

We're getting there! Okay I had a hard time trying to choose which piece to put up after She.. but I can say the following piece will touch most .. actually all of you.

I decided to  crown it as Mother, as it entails a mother's hopes and wishes for her beloved child. I believe that all mothers, living or resting, deserve honorable recognition for the sacrifices they have made for us to be where we are in life. Truly blessed we are.

I dedicate this one to my one and only mama, she has been all I need till now and I thank God for her.

She

She will dance a sensual dance on the waves of your heart
Like a judge she will leave no stone unturned
Only the strong can withstand the poison of her beauty and charm
The rest waste away like the sands in the hourglass

She will refuse to be subdued
The curves of her confidence are fit to woo every ounce of your soul
Undisputed, she will claim you and have you for herself
She will not stop, she rules

She defies the odds of nature
She has upset every rule that has been commanded against her will
Her lips drip of nothing but the sweet nectar of  womanliness
She has nothing to lose, she has your heart in her soft palms

She embraces her feminine venom, she owns her show
The world is her stage
The moon is her light
If you are brave, then cross her path
But the weak, she blots out of existence

She will rule
She will conquer
Majestically, she will rise
The Queen of her own heart
And maybe yours

If you look closely
If you submit
If you dare
You will know

I am She

Oh poems, where art thou - there you are!

World... I'm Back!! Okay, as promised I am going to upload my very VERY very beloved and treasured pieces - poems in layman's language (LOL) - and I think it's time I gave you a taste of my weirdness!! I'm still starting out obviously, having created 20 pieces if I remember well - more to come!

So the first piece is crowned as She.. a very intimate, fiery and confident showcase of a very robust and independent woman who will not surrender at any cost to get what she wants (duh - it's ME of course haha). It's one of the first poems I wrote in 2014 after a long break at it, as I had started out in high school around 2009. You'll read the rest as I post!

Enjoy

Suicide : Society's crime

Taking someone's life is evil of course, but taking one's own life? Beyond unimaginable. Cases of people committing suicide have the same old causes: depression, loneliness, rough upbringing, just sadness that one person feels and endures ALONE. Where is the rest of society when this person decides to end his or her own life? We are all consumed with our own battles we forget that  sometimes other people need that one extra lift from us. And when we ignore, we think everything is well until you find them lying lifeless on the cold floor. Too late.

It's time we intensified education toward suicide and its impact on society. We need to stand collectively and fight this silent evil, who knows, maybe your loved one is contemplating it right now. Just saying.

It won't take much to educate and support one another. Offering moral support and words of affection clearly doesn't need a degree. It's stupid for society to pay a price for suicide yet it causes it. Step the game up, DO SOMETHING TODAY.

Check on your loved ones always. When going through rough patch, talk to someone. Cry in their arms. Say it all. Even counseling helps, it won't go to waste. But hey I'm not here to reiterate stuff that's been emphasized already. We know what's to be done so let's not relax and bank on the fact that we're always going to be told what to do. Suicide is heartbreaking. But what's even more heartbreaking is that it's a crime that's being committed not by by the victim. They are not to blame.

Society, you're guilty as charged.

Young world! I know I've been quite silent on my posting...I can say 2014 was quite the hectic one! On that note...allow me to say (embarrassed though) happy new year to you all! Let's hope we'll be able to share a whole lot this year - oh that reminds me...I've had my beautiful overactive brain try on poetry! I swear it will be worth the wait! Stay tuned (..or stay reading? Gosh I embarrass myself eek!).Awesome stuff is coming your way! 😙
